چکیده

The aim of ESA's satellite mission GOCE is to determine the Earth's gravity field with high accuracy and resolution. To achieve this aim, GOCE carries a gravitational gradiometer that needs calibration. Existing global gravity fieldmodels in combinationwith GOCE star sensor data may be used to synthesize reference differential accelerations with which the common and differential accelerations, as derived from the gradiometer measurements, can be calibrated. We present a new method in which the data are transformed from the time to the frequency domain, which allows accounting for the coloured noise on the measurements. The weight matrix is iteratively adjusted and we apply our method to real GOCE data. With our method, the gravitational gradient trace significantly reduces as compared with the currently available in-flight calibrated measurements.

GOCE gradients in various reference frames and their accuracies

The objective of GOCE (Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer) is the determination of the Earth’s gravity field with high spatial resolution. The main science sensor (the gradiometer) measures differential accelerations, from which the gravitational gradients, i.e. the matrix of the second derivatives of the gravitational potential, are derived. Some of them (the diagonal co...

Gravity Gradients and Spherical Harmonics - a Need for Different Goce Products?

GOCE will deliver Level 2 products such as grids of geoid heights and gravity anomalies, along with a spherical harmonic model of the Earth’s gravity field. Furthermore, Level 1B calibrated gravity gradients will be available. The majority of these products may seem superfluous, as they are all linear functionals of one and the same quantity, the Earth’s gravitational potential. We will show wh...

Quick-look outlier detection for GOCE gravity gradients

GOCE will be the first satellite ever to measure the second order derivatives of the Earth’s gravitational potential in space. With these measurements it is possible to derive a high accuracy and resolution gravitational field if systematic errors and/or outliers have been removed to the extent possible from the data. It is necessary to detect as many outliers as possible in the data pre-proces...

Combination of GOCE gravity gradients in regional gravity field modelling using radial basis functions

The satellite gravity mission GOCE measured the second-order derivatives of the Earth’s gravitational potential with high accuracy. The GOCE data enrich our gravity field knowledge especially at spatial resolutions from 750km down to 80km. In this paper we carry out regional gravity field analysis using radial localising basis functions that permit the combination of different data types tailor...

Performance Analysis of Goce Gradiometer Measurements

Since the launch of the GOCE satellite on March 17th 2009, a large amount of observation has been collected and needs to be analyzed. Of highest priority are the gradiometer measurements. Gravitational gradiometry measured in a satellite is new and many lessons are to be learnt before one can turn to a global gravity field analysis. Of highest priority is an analysis of the performance of (1) a...
